Most of us try to figure out ways to overcome self-doubt. It seems to be an endless cycle of achieving, overachieving and still not feeling good enough. As soon as we reach success, we are climbing on to the next big thing. Yes, it’s all great until we let that nagging fear sabotage our efforts. Instead of getting tripped up over those negative thoughts and stumbling blocks, here’s how I deal with the inner negativity.

5 Easy Ways to Overcome Self-Doubt and Stay on Track for Success

Remove the Distractions

In this modern and insanely hectic world we live in, there are so many noisemakers that can throw us off course. Limit yourself to how much time you spend online. Make a habit of “unplugging” for a period of time each day. Have a break and enjoy some quiet time. Read your favorite book or exercise. Maybe do both! Stop following negative people on social media and remove negative people from your life. If someone has a habit of instilling self-doubt in you, you’re going to have to limit your involvement with them. Keep contact with people who inspire you and lift your spirits. Your moment of truth is in self-discovery. How can you do that if you don’t regain focus on what matters the most?

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

Social media is awash with shares filled with what appears to be absolute perfection. We can easily get sucked into comparing ourselves to someone else’s seemingly fairytale lifestyle. My bit of advice is DON’T! You’re never going to measure up to some else’s make-believe world because none of us will. Think about it. We share our very best of everything on social media. Behind the scenes is a different story. Every one of us has what I call “dirt days.” These are days of reality. My clothes don’t fit, my hair is a mess, the toilet is spewing sewage, the kids are fighting and I’m in freak out mode. You get it. No one is perfect and don’t let the ideal painted picture make you think otherwise. Compare yourself to your own successes. Measure your path by how far you have come. This is how you’ll keep growing as a human being.

Keep a Journal

Keep a record of positive thoughts and accomplishments in your life. Jot down obstacles that you’ve overcome. It’s easier to alleviate fears when you have a record of past successes to look over. Write down problems and solutions you discovered to solve them. This is a great way to gain clarity and peace of mind the next time you’re trying to overcome self-doubt and the negative thought process.

Meditate and Focus

There are many people who swear by the positive benefits of meditation. It’s an amazing stress reliever! Next time you feel bogged down with negativity and self-doubt, carve out some time to quietly meditate. Set up a room that you enjoy in your home which is free of distractions. During your meditation, you might want to burn some relaxing scented candles and play soothing music. Practice deep breathing exercises to calm yourself and focus your mind on positive affirmations to boost your confidence.

Talk to Someone

Talking to a counselor or someone you trust really is good therapy. It helps you overcome self-doubt when you just let it out. The unreasonable mindset, exaggerated over thinking and irrational thoughts can be alleviated when you get someone else’s input. It can change your perspective and how you see yourself as a person. Counselors can help you reach inside yourself and uncover possible issues that are behind the reasons you experience the most self-doubt. It’s always a good idea to open up and have a good talk. I know it makes me feel better.
