Hi there! I have an easy turquoise earrings tutorial to share with you today. I have not met anyone who does not love this Semi-precious stone. It was a favorite among Indian tribes and is used frequently in Western jewelry.
What You Need
The supplies you need to create these lovely drop earrings are:
- Silver plated brass ball end head pins (24 gauge so they are very flexible).
- .925 silver french ear hooks with ball and coil 19mm
- 8mm 18 gauge silver jump rings
- Antique silver etched design oval connectors
- 6mm oval turquoise beads (can substitute with blue howlite)
Tools You Will Use
Round Nose Pliers
These jewelry pliers come in very handy and I use them for almost all of my jewelry making projects.
Flat Nose Pliers
This crafty tool is great at grasping things no matter what size and it is super helpful when you have small jewelry findings.
To get started on this turquoise earrings tutorial, thread your ball pin onto one of the oval turquoise beads.
Next, use your nose pliers and bend the ball pin at a 90-degree angle since this is necessary to create the loop you will need at the top.
Continue to create your loop by circling over the end of the pliers.
The wire has now formed a complete loop and you are ready to wrap the excess wire. This is why you need to use a flexible gauge of wire for your ball pins. I suggest nothing below a 24 gauge. The lower gauge wire is much stiffer and hard to work with on projects like this one.
Switch to your flat nose pliers and grip the excess wire while holding the loop steady with the round nose pliers. Tightly wind the wire around the top using the flat nose tool to gently press and pull the wire until it is squeezed snuggly.
Simply repeat the same step with your other turquoise bead.
Gently open your jump ring with either set of pliers. Only open the ring far enough to allow you to put pieces together. Opening it too far will weaken the metal which can result in breakage.
Slide the oval connector onto the jump ring and close it up with your pliers. Ever so slightly, open the loop at the bottom of your ear hooks and slip the top of the oval connector on and squeeze the loop closed. Use rubber earring backs to secure them when worn.
This no-fuss turquoise earring tutorial can be completed in 30 minutes or less.
