For some people, learning how to be happy is easy. They wake up in the mornings optimistic, motivated and ready to tackle the day. For the rest of us, it is an uphill battle trying to find the positivity that lies within ourselves. It is really not that difficult if you follow a few simple steps.

How to be Happy

How To Be Happy and Motivated Each Day

  • Follow Your Heart

I am sure you have heard people say this a million times, but it is true. I am not telling you to do something obviously irresponsible and wasteful. Happiness is found when you do things that make your heart happy. What are those things? Think about it. Do you have a hobby you enjoy? What is your passion?  Go jogging, read a good book, take a relaxing swim. The things that you do to relax and wind down should be sprinkled into your to-do list each day.

  • Make Progress Each Day

Just a little progress goes a long way. Anyone can have a dream or a goal they want to achieve and not do anything with it. When you don’t make any progress you will feel like your life is simply mediocre. Staying stagnant is poisonous to reaching goals and finding true happiness. Keep moving forward. Every little step leads down the path to bigger and better things.

  • Make Connections

Humans are naturally social. Some of us like socializing more than others. Learning how to be happy involves building relationships with others. Never discredit the impact a good relationship will have in your life.

People are known to nurture each other especially during times it is most needed. Always make time for those who love and support you.

  • Believe in Yourself

You must believe in yourself. Realize and know your value. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can others? It sounds cliche, but it is true. Think about what you’re good at. We are all good at something. What inspires you? What is your motivation? Focus on building a clear direction toward what you want to do in life and just go for it.

  • Be Gracious

Always appreciate what you have and what others do for you. When you are not grateful for having little, you are not going to feel happy and appreciate having a lot. The same holds true for people in your life. Be thankful and appreciative of them. If you don’t, you will find yourself having fewer friends and less of everything.

  • Stay in the Moment

Realize that tomorrow is not guaranteed and each moment is a gift. The present time is precious. Smile and focus on what is here and now. Dance while you still can. Worrying about tomorrow will not make it a better or a worse day when it gets here. Why fret over what you can’t change?

  • Stay Positive

Negativity is the lifeblood of unhappiness. Every negative thought you think or say will breed an infestation of sorry, guilt, shame, unworthiness and a bitter attitude. Focus on every positive aspect of your life. Everytime something bad happens, find the good in it. Focus on what you still have. Being positive boosts your mood and allows happiness to flow in.
