Our decision to have a Pensacola Beach family vacation is one we will never forget. I always thought the pictures I saw of this amazing place was spectacular. Seeing it in person took my breath away. The sugar-like sand, miles upon miles of aqua seas and brilliant blue skies made me want to stay forever.
If you get the opportunity to take a trip to this lovely little slice of the sunshine state, there are a few places I seriously suggest you see while there. The entire surrounding area is full of nature areas as well as opportunities for dolphin, fish and bird sightings. There are too many beautiful beach areas to count and plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, water skiing and surfing. It was truly a fun-filled family trip.
Jo enjoyed the waves running over his hands and even caught a few seashells.
It was so hard to head back home and leave the emerald coast, but we are already planning our next trip back.
Things To Do During Your Pensacola Beach Family Vacation
Named after General Andrew Pickens, it was designed to be the headquarters of gulf coast defenses during the Civil War. Explore the Fort during daily self-guided tours and get a true glimpse of American history. The area offers a magnificent view of Santa Rosa Island. The road leading up to Fort Pickens has several small beachfront stops where you can fish, take pictures and dip your toes in the emerald waters.
Want to get the best view of Pensacola Beach and the surrounding area? You need to visit The Lighthouse and Museum. They offer climbing tours of the landmark which is 177 steps up so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. All of that exercise is worth the astonishing look out from the top. This is also a popular place for weddings.
Big Lagoon State Park
I absolutely loved visiting this park during our Pensacola Beach family vacation. It has miles upon miles of pristine shoreline, saltwater tidal marshes, a wealth of different species of birds, paddleboard opportunities and more. The hiking and nature trails are fun for family adventures. Lots of wildlife sightings such as crabs, blue heron, pelicans, deer and sea turtles. The peaceful and remote atmosphere is a perfect escape from the city. If you love to camp, the campgrounds offer plenty of spacious clean sites for a relaxing vacation.
This spectacular part of Gulf Islands National Seashore offers breathtaking oceanfront views, pavilions for picnics and swimming areas with lifeguards. It is very family friendly and being in the Bayside area of Santa Rosa Island, you can enjoy calmer waters and peaceful walks along the beach. There are ample opportunities for children to collect shells and see crabs and the like in this area as well.
National Naval Aviation Museum
Home to the Blue Angels, the National Naval Aviation Museum is a must see when you are in the Pensacola area. There are numerous aircraft exhibits and artifacts of war at the museum and flight simulators are a favorite of kids and adults alike. Visitors grab a bite to eat at Cubi Bar Cafe where they have delicious soups, sandwiches and more. The most exciting thing to see of course is The Blue Angels practices. These are scheduled at various times so always check with the museum to catch them in action. This is one of the best places to visit during your Pensacola Beach family vacation.
Fishing Tours and Boat Charters
If you love fishing whether it is deep-sea fishing or otherwise, you are going to fall in love with Pensacola Beach. There are a variety of fishing charters for the avid fisherman and novice alike. There are also plenty of boat tours where you can experience the coast and all its splendor as well as dolphin cruises where the dolphin will follow along and give you a spectacular show.
This is only a portion of all the things that Pensacola Beach has to offer. This is one beach vacation we will cherish for a lifetime.
